25 Instructional Design terms

I am starting a glossary of terms that I can use in my studies for Instructional Design.

ADDIE
The ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) is an interactive process used by instructional designers to carefully consider all of the elements leading to the best result.

Assistive Technologies
Supporting learning with technology for students with a wide range of abilities, skills, and needs.
Audience Analysis
Analyze your learners. Knowing key demographics and background information about your learners will help you identify the information they need to know and the best way to present it to them. (ADDIE MODEL Step 1, Part 2)
Constructivist Theory (J. Bruner)
Learning is an active process in which learners construct new ideas or concepts based on their current/past knowledge.
Content Creation
Final graphics, multimedia, colors, and fonts to make your course look polished and professional.
Content Sequencing
The efficient ordering of the content in order to improve the learners' understanding, and help them achieve the objectives.
Deliverable
There are inputs and outputs in any type of project. That being what you put into the project, such as data, resources, etc., and then what comes out...
Educational Technology
Digital technology used to facilitate learning.
Experiential Learning (C. Rogers)
Applied knowledge such as learning about engines in order to repair a car.
Information literacy
The basic ability to “recognize when information is needed and have the ability to locate, evaluate, and use effectively the needed information”
Key Performance Indicators
A way for businesses to use concrete numbers to track progress and reach objectives.
Learning
The acquisition of knowledge or skills through experience, study, or by being taught.
Media literacy
Addresses technology and more as it involves critically thinking about the influences of media (including books, TV, radio, movies, and the Internet).
Pebble-in-the-Pond Model
Assumes a high-level goal, but not detailed objectives and starts from a representation of a whole problem or task which learners will be able to solve or execute following the instruction. 1) Design a problem. 2) Design a progression of problems 3) Design instruction for component skills. 4) Design instructional strategy enhancements. 5) Finalize the instructional design. 6) Design assessment and evaluation.
Process
A sequence of events or procedure for accomplishing something. Each chapter in this text describes the process for achieving a learning goal.
Prototype
Sample slides to test and identify whether specific features or concepts work. Allows a stakeholder get a feel for how the course will look and function before developing the entire course and all of its features.
Scaffold
A scaffold is information, feedback, a tool, or some other form of support that helps students grow from their present level of knowledge, skill, or ability to the next level.
Software
Composed of a set of instructions that controls the operation of a computer.
Storyboard
This document lays out the elements of the course that will appear on each slide. This may include text, imagery(, and narration script. (Addie, Design Model)
Successive Approximation Model
Design model that evaluates-designs-develops. Places greater stress on the iterative nature of each step in the process.
Task Analysis
Specific processes and tasks you’ll be training learners on by breaking them down into step-by-step chunks. (ADDIE MODEL Step 1, Part 3)
Technological literacy
This is the ability for students to be able to make “informed, balanced and comprehensive analysis of the technological influences on their lives and then be able to act on the basis of their analysis”
Technology
Electronic media (such as video, computers, or lasers) used as tools to create, learn, explain, document, analyze, or present dance.
Testing
Things that need to be reviewed include spelling, grammar, learning objectives, navigation, and flow.
Training Needs Analysis
Training Needs Analysis (TNA) is the process in which the company identifies training and development needs of its employees so that they can do their job effectively. It involves a complete analysis of training needs required at various levels of the organization. (ADDIE MODEL Step 1, Part 1)
